Pumpkins

Here’s another news feed from your favourite reporter/farmer/peasant/writer/animal lover/etc…. Pumpkins are harvested! I managed to grow the whole four pumpkins, all by my own. This kind is called pecenka in Serbian and I have no idea what’s their name in English. Pecenka is used mostly for the Night before Christmas diner, because according to  Ortodox Christian tradition, this diner is in fasting days, so all the food is fasting. My favourite are cabbage quiche and for desert, roasted pumpkin- pecenka. It is sliced and baked in the oven, with no sugar added. Usually, pecenke are super sweet, but this year might be less sugar in them, because of the rainy summer that washed away all the good stuff.

Also, pecenka is one of the main ingredient in fruit juices and baby mashes, for it’s rich pulp and abundance in vitamins, especially vitamin C.
