Here’s another news feed from your favourite reporter/farmer/peasant/writer/animal lover/etc…. Pumpkins are harvested! I managed to grow the whole four pumpkins, all by my own. This kind is called pecenka in Serbian and I have no idea what’s their name in English. Pecenka is used mostly for the Night before Christmas diner, because according to Ortodox Christian tradition, this diner is in fasting days, so all the food is fasting. My favourite are cabbage quiche and for desert, roasted pumpkin- pecenka. It is sliced and baked in the oven, with no sugar added. Usually, pecenke are super sweet, but this year might be less sugar in them, because of the rainy summer that washed away all the good stuff.
Also, pecenka is one of the main ingredient in fruit juices and baby mashes, for it’s rich pulp and abundance in vitamins, especially vitamin C.

Japanese call these guys shiro kabocha
What a great piece of knowledge! 🙂 I am impressed, my friend. 🙂
I am learning Japanese. Slowly…
When I see pumpkins, I always think of the Halloween occasion. Thank you for sharing this informative post.
That’s a nice way to present it. 🙂 Thank you for reading! 🙂
When I first learned that pumpkin flowers are edible, I was shocked, but later I learnt that there are so many edible flowers.
You’re right. For example, you can make sweets out of rose petals. 🙂
I really like rose petal jam or rose petal tea.
That sounds so deliciously. 🙂 Does it require for a special kind of roses or could be made of any kind?
I have never tried making it at home, but I believe that in Bulgaria, traditionally they use Rosa damascena (the same one that’s used for rose oil).
Would love to grow pumpkins, cause adore pumpkin juice, but have no garden. Was very surprised to know about edible pumpkin flowers, thank you so much for sharing this fact!!!
A pumpkin juice is so tasty, especially from this kind of pumpkins. I also love pumpkin souffle, this is one of my favourite sweets. 🙂
I’ve ever planted pumpkins too but may be of a different type. I am still thinking about whether your type of pumpkin is the type that becomes a Cinderella’s cart.
They were certainly of the different kind, because of the climate differences. 🙂 Nice thought about Cinderella’s carriage, I really like it. 🙂
Is it also a different type of pumpkin commonly used in Halloween Day in America?
As I could see in movies, those pumpkins are big and orange, so it seems like totally different kind.
Very well, so eating your pumpkin is really healthy and not creepy or haunted.
I love to bake with pumpkin and squash.
I use them in many dishes, as well as in fruit juices and sweets. 🙂
These are hard like a sone and tasty for the stove.
Yes, they are sweet like sugar. 🙂
A neighbor used to have a pumpkin patch. It was fun for the kids.
I can only imagine. 🙂 My furry kids had a lot of fun with pumpkins, too. 🙂 And they will be more excited about cooked pumpkins, because they love to eat them. 🙂
Great post, I love Pumpkin. I did not know that the flower is edible
Thanks, Branka. 🙂 I’ve just heard that it has some medical properties, too. Check out in comments. 🙂
Hmm..Nice Big Pumpkins oxm Post!!!
They are not that big, but will be good enough for souffle or quiche. 🙂
Ah, okey, Nice Info: 🙂
We use the flower sap for ear infection.
Thanks. 🙂 That’s a very useful information. 🙂
not a problem. I am glad to share.
Thanks again. : Here, we use Common Houseleek https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sempervivum_tectorum for that purpose. 🙂
