“Prvomajski Uranak”

The first May is most often celebrated with friends and relatives in nature. Belgrade residents usually choose the surrounding excursions such as Ada, Košutnjak and Zvezdara Forest.Friendship starts from early morning hours with camp fire and inevitable roasting and barbecue.

The first campfire will start to burst out tonight. The first May is traditionally celebrated in almost all parts of the world, and because of the way it is celebrated in our region, it is also known as the “Prvomajski Uranak”. This holiday represents a festivity and a folk tradition that orders that on May 1, at dawn, before the sunrise (some day before the day of May 1st), he goes to nature and most often with the camp fire, celebrates the holiday with dishes from the kettle and grill. In Europe (central and northern), the night before May Day, they call the “Valpurgina Night” (according to St. Valpurgia). As with us, the holiday is celebrated with a song, a drink until the morning, or “uranka”, with the obligatory burning of the campfire.

  1. That sounds great, our seasons are different in New Zealand in the south pole. When you have spring, we have Autumn. May used to be celebrated but not now.

  2. We celebrate similarly with us … in the evening before May 1st, we burn the fires, “the poem, the party is going all night and all day

  3. Thank you for sharing this information. In our country, May 1st is also a holiday. We call it Labor Day. The local government usually conducts a job fair in the area which was being participated in by individuals looking for a job.
