Portulac (Portulaca oleracea) – a beautiful flower that has no pests

I was very surprised when I came from vacation. On my terrace, the flowers are still beautifully flowering although the weather has cooled down a bit. I finally found out the name of the flower that has been making me happy all summer. Portulac is widespread in warm tropical and subtropical places, where about one hundred species are known. The ancestors of the large-flowered purtolac, mostly raised for ornamental purposes, originate in Brazil and Argentina. It is an ideal plant for both the garden and the balcony, as its leaves are fleshy and full of water, so it can withstand both heat and drought. The plant thrives best in the sunny position, because it is very modest, but also no problems with fertilization. Its specialty is that it is completely healthy, free of diseases and pests.

  1. I didn’t know this flower. They look beautiful and I am surprised to know they are free from pests and diseases. I always thought flowers are not easy to grow.

    • They really are something special and very easy to bring up. It will be winter in our country (temperatures are pretty low), but these flowers are still blooming on my terrace.

  2. I have these in single but they are seasonal and one needs to keep a tab on preserving their cuttings and replant them else they just disappear.
