Poll: When Spring Has Sprung

Spring officially begins in less than a month, on the 20th of March. A lot of people are really looking forward to spring, less in an official date on a calendar than the actual season. That is especially true for people who have gone through a long, cold, brutal winter season. In Montana, it is doubtful that our spring season will begin in March and it may not even begin in April. Still, spring is coming soon.

Each season has things to look forward to. Each is special in one way or another. This poll is focused on your feelings about spring.

    • Warm weather

    • That is a pretty good list and most of those things I do as well. I can’t wait to put in my garden, though. I just hope that I’ll be able to borrow a tiller this year. I got a few hundred pounds of leaves from the neighbor late last year and want to till those in. I’ll also be cleaning out the chicken coop when we get warm weather and want to till that straw in, too.

      • yeah that will make a GREAT soil to grow stuff in, I wish I had some
        decent land not slanted & enough of it where I could grow a little ?
        but with what we have we can’t walk on it if it rains or snows, :>{

  2. I can’t wait to plant marygolds in my garden. For now, all the bulbs I have are inside a greenhouse, they are feeling spring and sprout even if it’s cold.

    • I know what you mean. The tulips and daylilies at church are pushing up through the snow and are ignoring the really cold air. The marigolds shouldn’t be much of a problem to plant this year, though. I got around five pounds of seeds off the marigolds last year. lol

    • I can understand that. I’m thankful that it isn’t supposed to get below 5 F tonight, so it is substantially warmer than last night. We’re supposed to get another bout of snow over the weekend.

      • Unfortunately, it’s still really cold though! But at least that’s something positive.
        Yeah, we are supposed to get some more snow too…luckily ours has mostly been maybe 1 inch at a time and has not stuck to the roads (we had a warmer than usual January)

        • We have more snow coming in this weekend, but I honestly don’t expect more than a few inches at most. Most of the snow will probably fall in the higher elevations here. We are supposed to have warmer temperatures to go along with it; above freezing.

          • Well that doesn’t sound too bad. Maybe it’s coming near the end? We are supposed to get 3-6 inches in total between Saturday and Monday….that will be the biggest snowfall for us since Christmas.

  3. Very nice poll, Rex. In rural Ireland, we say spring begins with Saint Brigid’s Day, that 1st February, which puts us pretty much in line with the lunar calendar. My farmer neighbours were all out ploughing today in the cold sunshine. Spring however, is here more conceptually than meteorologically, as it still freezes every night, and the air is raw and me out gardening in the middle of the day, when it’s not raining. Snow forecast next week 🙂 In the cities here they say spring begins on 1 March, a month later than in the countryside. Well, they don’t be out ploughing there 🙂

    • We’ve got blue skies and sunshine today, but the temps have been getting to about -20 C every night and there is still a foot of snow on the ground. We’re supposed to have snow this weekend, too. Our last frost is usually the last week of May or the first week of June. You are in a more northerly latitude than we are, but we have no warm current to warm the air up and mountains to make sure that it doesn’t. lol

  4. The bluebirds are the first to arrive. They keep me busy taking photos and making sure other birds do not disturb them. I also try to do spring cleaning in the house as well.
