Poll: Holiday Diet or Not

Several polls that have been taken recently explore many facets of the holiday season. One of those is in regard to dieting during the holidays. The obvious suggestion is that people tend to eat more and richer foods during the holidays. This isn’t necessarily supported, but it is the perception that many people have.

With the Christmas feast, cookies, pies, cakes, candy, breads, and other homemade sweets that are associated with the holiday season in the minds of many people, it is easy to see why the perception is what it is. For instance, just in the United States, there is probably no other period of time during the year that sweets and fattening foods are more widely eaten than during the holiday season. That isn’t necessarily just Christmastime and it would include Thanksgiving, too.

In one poll with over 4,000 respondents, nearly 85% said that they won’t be dieting during the holidays and a few percent were unsure. It would be interesting to see what an even wider range of people thinks about the topic. Thus, we have our poll for the day.

  • This holiday season, do you plan on dieting?

    • Yes
    • No
    • Yes, because I have to

    • It is particularly difficult for people around here to start, due to the weather. We have enough snow that outdoor activities are at a minimum, so people who are honestly dieting to lose weight aren’t able to step up their activity level to burn off the calories.

Good luck on the diet when you do start, though!
