I am a fan of National Parks and Monuments. I learn something new every time I visit one. I come to appreciate what a great country we have. One of the places that I have visited and enjoyed is the Petroglyph National Monument. There is a good selection of petroglyphs in the area.
Petroglyphs ares are the “written” history of the people who live there first. The pictures are pecked or etched into stones. Most of them are done on the faces of larger rock walls. Exploring the different interpretation of the pictures is something I find very interesting. Most of the petroglyphs at this monument were made by the Pueblo, Apache, and Navajo people.
The headquarters is where you go to information and they will be happy to give you directions to where you can view the petroglyphs. You can also pick up literature and purchase books.

Very interesting. Like going to the past every time I see things like this. There are so many inscriptions in the form of inscribed stones in many places in my country as well as some petroglyphs. I have seen a small part but very much that has not been because my country is the largest archipelagic country in the world and takes a lot of time to see it all in person.
As a fan of anything historical and/or cultural this outdoor museum would be a grand area to go visit. The Aboriginal or First Nations did have a flair for depicting what they saw along with their myths and beliefs. I enjoy your picture and your article…

My father lived by where there were many. We visited them often.
Very interesting, the story is told by the people who did the Petroglyphs. Not in New Zealand but we have Maoris who remember their arrival down to their tribes first canoe. Each area of New Zealand has a story, a local one by the Maoris who live there.
History is interesting. I enjoyed my trip to New Zealand. It was a horribly long fight and well worth it.
I like visiting places like this too. I’d love to visit this National Monument – it looks very interesting.
Most of our traveling was to a National Park or monument when I was growing up.
