Ordinary little bell

The bell is another highlight of spring. It starts blooming in February and blooms until May. The little bell is a permanent bulb that grows up to 15 cm high. From the bulb spring two or more simple striped leaves turn greyish green. A stem develops in the center between the leaves, bearing one white bell-shaped flower, which hangs downwards. The inner petals are green trimmed. The fruit is a three-compartment capsule containing seeds. The seeds are spread by ants. The aboveground part collapses a few weeks after flowering. It grows on moist, nutrient-rich soil throughout Slovenia. We have a protected species that is allowed to be picked up for a bouquet, and underground parts are not allowed to be excavated.

  1. Lado is my favorite flower. I want a small bouquet, because here where I live there is none. And it’s very warm. I brought it from Bulgaria. I planted them in a pot, but unfortunately they died.
