I have a computer that is part of the Windows Insider program (and the office insider program). You get the latest version before it hits the street. It is an older computer and one that I don’t use every day. The reason I am bringing this up, is the upgrade coming for Window 10, is impressive. I like to know what is coming, when is it coming before it hits the rest of the world.
1. I usually focus on here areas when it comes to updates. The first area is doing this to improve my security. For the most part, this doesn’t happen very often. But when the update is wholly security focused, I install it as quickly as possible.
2. Does the update create or improve functionality that I find critical (this is beyond security) new functionality may be something I want, have wanted for a while?
3. The last thing is new functionality – but something I hadn’t previously considered or thought I needed.
I am sharing these rules because they work for me. That is why I have a PC registered to the Insider program. I want to make sure that the upcoming OS, hits or doesn’t hit one of my three goals for upgrades. I apply these rules to my other devices as well. But unlike a few years ago, I only have a limited number of computers running beta software (1). There was an time when all my computers ran beta software. That is no longer the case. I like to have a working PC the vast majority of the time, and troubleshooting problems that are not new aren’t something I like to do as much now, as I used to do! I also realize in publishing my daily technology missive, that many more of you, readers, don’t like to troubleshoot issues either.
The thing I have learned over the past ten years of a technology blog is two-fold. The first is that I have to avoid going too far into things that do not yet exist. I did for many years advocate crowdfunding projects. The reality of crowdfunding is things fail. I stopped doing that more than two years ago. The other side of technology is not everyone chases technology as much as I do. It is a huge part of my job, so I focus a lot of time on it. But it isn’t what readers do most of the time.
Thanks to everyone that reads. Your time and comments are welcomed!

I am waiting for humans to reach Mars, for true AI and quantum computers.
I suspect you will not be waiting long then!!!!
Probably not ?. Guess I’ll have to wait and see.
soon, and changing everything again!
Just recently I had melted ice fall into my mouse key on my keyboard. The funny thing about it was that the key was giving me trouble, but now it works perfectly.
sometimes cleaning works! For the most part water and keyboards are not a good mix
Luckily it wasn’t much water, just a piece of snow that fell off of the roof and onto my jacket. I will be investing in a cleaner for my keyboard to maintain it until I replace it.
I have run into that problem before. They actually have tech cleaner now. Windex makes a good electronics wipe!
I am into 3D software so deep that’s all I have time for anymore. But even then I have to keep up with applications for modeling, rendering, surfacing, rigging and post processing so that really keeps me occupied…
I only do renders for the 3d printer. but that software can drive you nuts (rending in 2d on a screen doesn’t ever look right on the printer!)
yeah, but then remember how bad the first gen 2D printers sucked? Give the 3D printers a few generations to mature…
I do, most of them are decent now in terms of output. It is the software on the PC that is lagging!
that’s good news, comrade! it is easier to replace software than hardware and software is like girls- they mature faster
I wish it would speed up a bit, comrade. Right now it is annoying!
you can’t rush software development without compromising quality
Or you can do the google model (they say its DevOps) throw that software out into the wild once it can fly.
there are a bunch of rapid development models and I can’t say I care for any of them. I prefer a robust model like waterfall…
I am pushing the modification of DevOps. Originally it was called DevSecOps, but I worry that is still missing stuff.
NetDevSecOps is my new mantra.
the days when security wasn’t part of the initial plan are long gone
That my friend. is the mantra for tomorrow, today and every day beyond! Secure now, secure then and secure forever. (to make a horrible speech into something useful instead.)
there are some exciting things happening with secure by design
You work in this business, so it’s all a bit easier and more understandable. ?
I hope I can make things easier! Thanks 🙂
As far as I know by talking to my wife, I have Windows 10 … I have not been using the keyboard yet, and my mouse has fallen to the ground several times … I do not know about shoes … I was half a meter long if it’s known to you how much it’s shoes
Windows 10 is the latest version good for you!!!! I have dropped my old mouse for the last time (it actually cracked). Thanks Lado!!!
Thank you for kindly explaining … even to me, the mouse has already fallen and it is scattered
i ended up adding carpet to my office, I don’t break keyboards and mice anymore! Other than the one I dropped upstairs a week ago.
Your interest and knowledge in technology have lifted me up because I was previously less interested in the topic but because I often read your writing, little by little I was affected and learn more.
I never spill jelly on my keyboard but a few years ago my brother-in-law spilled coffee on my laptop keyboard.
I got jelly on my keyboard, and now I have a new keyboard!
I thank you for the kind words, Albert. You are a lighthouse in the sea of understanding.
I suspect there is a difference under the PC and Laptop keyboard. Is it true?
Very much so, under the laptop keyboard is the CPU of the laptop.
Under the keyboard of a desktop, well is just whatever the keyboard is on in my case my desk.
No jelly but I have spilled coffee!
What am I waiting for? Many things. Flowers to bloom. Bluebirds to nest. And to be reunited with my loved ones.
I haven’t done coffee yet myself, but I have had people spill coffee on me, keyboard and laptops.
Waiting for loved ones and bluebirds feels like the best way to be!!!
Thankfully I have a keyboard that I can put in the dishwasher.
I want the voice recognition to work better. I can rarely get mine to understand me.
I have one of those, but I always forget to take it out of the box in the back of my office!
My computer is like producing an old generation. I installed Window 10, but I had problems. He was walking very slowly. I think I am now on the old version of Window 7 and am pleased.
Windows 7 is a lot more forgiving with older hardware. I can understand that!
I haven’t been using computer mouses for a while.
Are you implying you dropped a mouse more than 10 feet? ?
Crowdfunding is an amazing thing, but it really takes a lot of trust.
It’s usually more of a way to show support or interest, than expecting something back. After all, it’s intended as a donation, not as a purchase.
Perks should be seen as extras, not part of the deal. ?
I actually dropped my mouse a number of times, but the last time I did it, it was about 4 feet. It landed on the wrong part of the floor and cracked!
The reality of crowdfunding is as you said – great point!
