On the New Blocking Feature…

I was probably the first one to notice the Block and Report buttons last night when they showed up but I didn’t want to write about it… I didn’t check how they work and I supposed that someone else will be writing about them too… Now that I checked some people who I thought could block me and found that one of them did I could check (in a way) how it works…:

So, at least for now (could be the feature is still developing),  you can’t access the profile of the person who blocked you, therefore, can’t send them private messages but you can see their posts as well as to comment them… While I was actually probably the first one who asked the admins about the block button very long ago I actually don’t see the point of the profile and messages being inaccessible while posts and comments are. Also, I don’t see the point of the profile being inaccessible in that situation too (except if it’s for the personal Info put on that profile)

There is also another thing… If with this new feature people will get blocked in reading/opening posts too and since now there will probably be a lot of “easy” (“ego”) blocking, who will then read/open posts if they become inaccessible too – and the traffic is what we need here…! Therefore, I think that since the point of the block button is to block people contacting/interacting with you only such features should be blocked with this button which means: messages and comments, while all the other features should stay accessible like profile and posts, or just posts…

Also, now I’m thinking about the traffic and could be commenting affects that too so could be they are left for that reason… :/

  1. Hard to say, I really don’t want to block anyone. I think in life there should be love and forgiveness… I guess that there are people out there who are dangerous and need to be blocked world wide\\

We had a TV presenter comment on sexual predators who prey on children on the internet and some of them, I am ashamed to say, are New Zealanders. Not just world wide. New Zealand children have been victims as well as world wide.
These type of people are becoming smarter too and half the time, the children parents have not got a clue.

Dangerous people should be blocked in every world wide site but how one can do it is another thing

  2. Allowing comments to blocked people sounds quite pointless, indeed. All interaction should be blocked. Traffic is a good point, but I guess some people would prefer to block access to everything, including their profiles and posts. On most sites, blocking hides everything. So I’m not sure about that.
I mean, we saw how some posts can actually be targeted to one user in particular.

  3. These are the current votes, some answers seem to be illogical so please think what’s the question before you answer…:
    Users voted 8 times.
Q: Do you agree posts should stay visible after blocking?

    Yes (3 votes) – 33%
    No (3 votes) – 33%
    Still not sure (3 votes) – 33%

Q: Do you think ONLY private messages (/and comments) should be blocked then…? (ONLY messages and comments – not posts and not profiles)

    Yes (5 votes) – 63%
    No (1 votes) – 13%
    Still not sure (2 votes) – 25%

Q: Do you think comments should be blocked too?

    Yes (7 votes) – 78%
    No (1 votes) – 11%
    Still not sure (1 votes) – 11%

Q: Or the profile should not be visible too…? (BESIDES messages and comments)

    Yes (4 votes) – 50%
    No (1 votes) – 13%
    Still not sure (3 votes) – 38%

  4. I never thought about blocking someone, no one has insulted me to such level. I do not think I will use this button. As admins approve each post of not verified members I am not sure about reporting any posts too.

    • Well it kinda indirectly happened to me and as a result I insulted them (after trying to explain normally of course)… I am too sensitive to the unfairness and I can react very bad on that…
I agree with that… But there are also some that doesn’t need to be approved too…

  5. It seems to me that the only reason to block someone is to prevent interaction. As such it makes no sense to me that the blocked person can still post comments on your post. As far as the question of blocking visibility of profile and posts is concerned, it would be pointless, because the blocked person only has to log out to see them, since they are publicly visible.

    • Of course… Heh, yes, that is another truth I never even thought about… We’ll see how it develops further…

PS I answered you in that other post where you commented about the Virils page but there was no Reply button so I answered below it… – yes, I know it existed before but I meant since the notifications are now like this it would be good to be able to delete some unnecessary Viril ones like they are notifications too while of course the Virils stayed (counted)…

  6. Virily is a means for writing but also for getting paid when your posts are viewed and commented on. So I would say that the blocking should definitely just apply for messages and the personal profile of each and everyone. If somebody wants to also block comments and views, it is up to them but then their views and eventual monetary redemption would possibly decrease. At least that is how I understand it….

    • Yes, I completely agree with you on that, that’s the point…! I’m not sure admins would make such an option to “choose” if we want our posts to be viewed and/or commented (not sure if they would be able to implement such a thing) but is an interesting idea too… Also, I don’t understand why profiles would be blocked except for the personal info then (or maybe that’s the only way of blocking messages… :/), but I never put that on my profile so that is why it almost never occurred to me…
