Omega 3 and sardines

We have the temptation to go for the exotic fish no matter how much it costs but our body demands fish that is cheap and good for it. Sardines are packed with omega 3 that is required to keep our cholesterol in check.

Sardines are easily available and I recommend that it is added in your staple diet. There are so many ways in which sardines can be cooked.

Today I am going to have sardines cooked this way:

I will put some oil in the pressure cooker and add a good amount of chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder and  chilli powder.  Heat the oil and cook the tomatoes.  Place the sardines in a single file neatly.  Add a bit of water and pressure cook the sardines.

The sardines will stay intact and will taste just like tinned sardines.

  1. We have a huge world-famous sardine “run” along the Natal coast. I often caught them but could not get the bones soft. Now I’m far away from there and now I hear that I should have done them in the pressure cooker. The thought never crossed my mind. Next July, if I’m still around, I’ll order me some from Durban where I used to live. What do you add to them before cooking?

  2. I love anchovies … we have a great market where I can always buy fresh anchovies just when the whole house smells like fish … I like to eat them right at the market where they are perfectly roasted … I also like them in the can
