Now and Always Eloise

A delightful children’s book titled “Eloise” was published by Kay Thompson in 1955. The author must have had an inkling that I was going to be born in 1957. It is a delightful book about a six-year-old girl named Eloise who lives with her nanny in The Plaza Hotel in New York City.

I have always thought I was just the same kind of imaginative child as this Eloise especially since she was an only child. Same as Eloise I could have done amazing things at The Plaza if I had had the chance of living there. Instead, my imagination took me to different places and I could do almost anything within the walls of the apartment we lived in.

I had almost forgotten about this wonderful book when I was a young adult. Then a dear friend of mine mentioned to me that I reminded him of Eloise due to my mannerisms and some of the things I’d do and say. That was when I remembered dear Eloise who could have been like the spitting image of me. It was then that I purchased another copy of this book and still have it today. If I want to go back through the years and plant a smile on my face I just have to pick up this book and read it one more time.

A movie was released about Eloise and her adventures in 2003 “Eloise At The Plaza” and the Nanny was played by ever-popular Julie Andrews. Another movie followed titled “Eloise At Christmastime”.

  1. I don’t think I have read this book, I am not sure that any fictional character reminds me of me. I once wrote a flash fiction but I didn’t realize at that time that the character thought like me and acted like me until my friend pointed it out to me.
