I am the gatekeeper. The one
that closing the last
door
keeps them out.
They
the them that we keep out
to be pushed away
to be left
on the outside.
They are the last
the first
the outcasts
of the dream.
I am the gatekeeper
standing guard against
the slippery
ones who slide beneath doors
or fly over walls.
I am the gatekeeper
i will not fail
None
no one
not a single one
shall pass.

I think all of us are gatekeepers keeping our life and loved ones safe.
i agree, sometimes we are…
Safeguarding our life and possessions is part of living and in that sense I suppose we all are watchmen
interesting point, this is why i love poetry, it is about the sharing!!!!
What is the format of these kind of poems called? I write limericks and poems that have full sentences.
this is the style of Ezra Pound and the America Surrealists. I feel in love with he style when I was in college.
I really feel like a doorman. I always have to be careful to put away the bad stuff, if possible.
I struggle with that all the time. I need to learn to ignore things that don’t help me!
I can identify with this. And rightly so should every father, friend or anyone who considers themselves neighbor or community.
Although on the humorous side (which is no offense to your poem), if Trump got a hold of this piece, it’s quite likely that the Lords prayer could be replaced. LOL
I do agree this is part of being a community member. To be a guardian of right and fair.
I won’t comment on the trump joke.
I have not been a gatekeeper, but with that power comes huge responsibility.
as a parent sometimes being the gatekeeper is the only path.
No, I don’t really feel that. Barely visible and powerless is more like it I guess.
understood I feel that way with my kids sometimes.
I have been the gatekeeper for many years, trying to keep drama and evil out of my life.
you bring a new way of thinking into this Carol, I honestly hadn’t thought of that. Thanks.
Must be a tedious job Doc. Just kidding, no , never felt like one before.
Thanks! Liked the first part, it can be tedious!!!!
I liked the fact that you were the gatekeeper and wouldn’t let the bad ones in! Good poem.
sometimes someone has to stand in the way!
