New Challenge: A Knot A Day

I have always been wanting to learn how to make knots and then teach my eldest son as I think it’s a good life skill to learn. My eldest son is 10 years old now, but I have always been procrastinating. Just two days ago, I bumped into a blog post, which is about an artist, Windy Chien, learning and making a new knot everyday in 2016. It’s called “The Year of Knots”, and a book about all the knots will be published soon too.

This really inspired me to plan a new challenge for myself and my eldest son. I plan to learn and make a new knot everyday together with him. I think this will be a fun and interesting challenge for us, and we will surely have good bonding time learning and making knots together too. We have just made our first knot – Doughnut Knot. It’s quite easy, and I think it’s a nice and neat way to keep any strings in good order. My son watched the video tutorial and then taught me how to make it. It’s also a good way to let my son learn to make and learn to teach too.

    • Yes, I agree with you. I really need to build my will power and be persistent. We learned two or three knots, then we stopped. It’s actually I didn’t carry on working on it.

    • Yes, I found it interesting as well. Actually I wanted to teach him tying the knots since he was young, as I think it’s a good life skill to be learned. I didn’t spend time learning how to do so, and hence I didn’t teach my son. 😛

    • I think it’s something good and useful for kids to learn. Perhaps it’s good for me to learn too. There are some knots that are good to be used in our daily life. 🙂

    • Yes, I agree with you all. I was brought up to be more focus on the academic studies, but I was really lacking of life skills, not to say DIY. It’s really good to let the kids learn how to do things by their hands and it helps to build their creativity and confidence as well.
