Mystery Weed Identified

Everywhere I look, especially in the fields and open areas, I see these yellow blooms. I knew they were weeds but I wondered what they are and can I grow these in my yard. So behind my house I went out and picked a few so I could research and identify for a name.

The best I can tell these are called bulbous buttercups. The Bulbous Buttercup has bright yellow flowers with downturned sepals underneath the petals. It has a hairy stem with a bulb-like swelling at the base, and leaves with three lobes.

Tah-dah, mystery has been solved. I can grow these in my yard if I contain them so they don’t invade. I just might do this. They are perennial, meaning they will return each year. They are yellow like sunshine. I noticed they are seen in other countries as well, like Ireland.

  1. I am glad you found out what they are. I didn’t know either. I have seen them here though. I think bringing them to your garden would be great. How long do they bloom?

    • They are everywhere here, especially in the cow fields and pastures. And I read they are poisonous to cattle. They have a bitter taste according to what I read. They bloom for weeks, that is why I wanted them in my yard.

  2. They have a beautiful yellow color! They will add to the garden (color wise). Weed, is an artificial construct humans use to define good and bad.

    I love weeds!
