My movie review "A Dog's Purpose"

I love dogs. I have had a dog in my life for most of my life. Over those years we’ve had Great Pyrenees, Newfoundland, Australian Shepards, Heinz 57 and Laboradors. Each of them has been a unique addition to my life. Based on that, I have to say I was dreading watching the movie “A Dog’s Purpose.” Not because I thought the movie would be bad, I didn’t. I can’t think of a Dennis Quaid movie I haven’t loved.

It was both the content and the reality of loving dogs that made me nervous about this movie.

  1. The movie is shot from the perspective of the dog.
  2. The humans (other than Ethan and Hannah) weren’t critical to the movie but added a considerable backstory.

The question the dog asks every time it returns to this planet is what is my purpose. Presented with many obstacles in the reality of human life, the dog takes on the world. I started crying about 4 minutes into the movie and didn’t stop until the end.

Overall I give this movie a 10 out of 10. Plus five boxes of Kleenex!
