Today a bunch of “future” blog questions in the poll. As has been one of my traditions for the past 14 years or so of blogging is my annual what is going to be big in 2020. This year we are heading to the perfect eyesight year 20, 20! Based on that, I am going to share the technologies that I think are going to be game-changers in this upcoming year. This year I am limiting the list to the top 4 because the four are huge this year.
2020 Top Tech
- The biggest mover in 2020 is 5g network services. 5g represents two things, what is called home and mobile. Home or fixed wireless, allows you to have a 5g signal for device sin your home to use. 5g mobile allows your mobile phone to receive and utilizes 5g signals.
- The next big mover this year is the devices that will support 5g. Today Samsung and Motorola have 5g enabled cell phones.
- Airplay projectors and the Android screen share enabled projects. This allows you to carry a big screen with you, in s small projector. Plug the phone into the USB port via a USB cable, and you can share your cell phone screen on a larger screen.
- AndroidTV is an OS from Google that is going to continue to grow in value!
Many areas of Technology continue to expand but in my eyes, these four are game-changers in the coming year. The Apple iPhone 12 will have (rumor) a 5g stack. Now, for a mobile device, there are two ways to have a 5g connection. The first is to use what is called a puck. I have a Verizon MiFi, a wireless puck that has a built-in WiFi network and connects to both 4g LTE, and 5g cellular networks to share data. You can also get a phone that has the built-in 5g stack. For the foreseeable figure (at least four years), you will have to have both 4g LTE and 5g radio stack sin your phone. I would also like to include my honorable mention list so that you can see the other tech I considered.
2020 Honorable mention
- All in one 3d printer (laser engraving, laser cutting and 3d printing)
- Translation devices such as Travis, the Translator
- Meeting recording technology such as Senstone or Otter.ai
- Meeting and note/whiteboard capturing such as the Rocketbook products.
I will be asking a lot of poll questions to guide some future technology blogs so thank you in advance for your time answering!

I am hoping to see more cars like that one in your post cover. I saw this only in China and it is cuuuuuuuuute ?
Smart cars are all over Europe (they are actually made by Mercedes Benz)!
Smart cars are common even in Asia but these tiny ones (I think it can only fit the driver) I only noticed in China. I haven’t been to Europe yet. I have a gift for a trip to Netherlands but I still did not redeem it. I dunno. Not excited about Europe. Morocco, Iran, Pakistan, exotic places like that have more appeal to me. But yes, I love Belgian chocs ?
the one in the picture has room for two people, my son-in-law drives my daughters smart car on occasion. He is 6 foot 5
When it comes to tech I am far behind the times. But, the 3d printers sounds interesting.
They really are – i have printed many things in the past three years!
But technically, no one wants me to touch them. Somehow I manage to mess them up, turn them off, get them locked up, forget a password and the list goes on and on.
my poor wife forgets her password all the time!
it is part of learning tech I suspect.
That’s why I don’t understand why so many people have iPhones because Apple technology is so far behind what Samsung has.
we could argue that – in many ways Apple has an advantage. In many ways Samsung has an advantage. it just depends on what you need.
I like the car. Most of this is over my head.
well by definition wireless traffic (5g) would be over your head 🙂
kidding!
Technology for 2020 is really interesting – lots of fun things coming. Most will use without knowing that they are using!
Har har har, well yes. I guess they are. lol. Thanks for the giggle this Xmas morning!
dad joke central here, happy to provide laughter!
They just pop out so naturally… 😉
yes, my children wish they wouldn’t!
Q: DO YOU STILL HAVE A PRINTER IN YOUR HOUSE?
Yes (5 votes) – 63%
No (3 votes) – 38%
Q: DO YOU HAVE A ROUTER IN YOUR HOUSE? (CABLE MODEM OR FIBER)?
Yes (7 votes) – 88%
No (1 votes) – 13%
Q: DO YOU HAVE A WIFI NETWORK IN YOUR HOUSE?
Yes (8 votes) – 100%
Q: DO YOU HAVE A SMART TV IN YOUR HOUSE?
Yes (1 votes) – 13%
No (7 votes) – 88%
Q: DO YOU HAVE A CAMERA IN YOUR HOUSE?
Yes (4 votes) – 50%
No (4 votes) – 50%
to me the most interesting numbers are the reduced number of printers. I would have expected more printers still in houses!
I do not have a smart tv and I do not want to have one. Merry Christmas Mr. Andersen. Have a great holiday.
i understand the desire to not have a smart TV. Happy holidays to you as well pal!!!
I love that car what’s the name of that car
that is a SmartCar, they are very small but very fuel efficient!
I wish I knew tech talk. All I know is that I plan to get an Android , I already have Mifi
Android phones are very good. I have my work phone (android) that i use every day. I enjoy it!
I would like to have a 3D printer one day. Very cool.
they really are, I love taking something from possible to physical! There is a 3d site that has 100s of bird maps (3d printers use a specific type of mapped file)!
There are a lot of technological innovations that I don’t think will benefit much
some will make life easier. Doctors will be able to perform reliable remote surgery with 5g!
Do you think remote surgery is a plus thing?
yes, because the person that has performed the surgery 200 times, can be there as part of the team. It reduces the risk for all. It allows for spreading experts thinner without spreading too thin.
But I am looking it other way. The surgeon will not present physically Mel lead more complication.
So far robotic surgeries have been done many times. There hasn’t been an increased complication.
The doctor in the operating room can step in at any point. The value is the reduction of risk for extremely complicated surgical procedures. Robotic surgery is growing, it greatly reduces the trauma to the patient. Remote surgery goes one step further.
I can’t imagine remote operations, dear friend
they are done now, it will be much better.
The end game is a doctor that has done a very specialized operation 100 times. and a doctor that has never done that operation. Working together reduces the risk for the patient!
I can’t believe this, but 5G has come to our country.
yes it is making its way through the US, through Europe and Asia!
Hope that car in your photo is for Sale for a lower price
it is a smart car I owned 5 years ago
The translator one sounds very exciting!
i have used it for more than 6 months. It really helps!
I can’t see myself using any of this. I do have a mobile phone, which I acquired about six months ago, but I hardly ever use it.
do you have internet at home? you might use the new fixed wireless (5g) at home. It is 1.2 to 1.4 times faster then the current fastest internet connections available.
I shall bear that in mind!
thanks – I think you are probably 2 years away from that where you are in the UK
