I have been buying more peanuts for the birds than for my own food. So I started cutting back how many peanuts I put in the bird feeder. The birds also get sunflower seeds. The blue jays love the whole peanuts as well as the woodpeckers. But I started cutting back the whole peanuts. And they do not seem to mind at all. They still visit four and five at one time for the seeds.
You can see in this photo the blue jay has a sunflower seed in his mouth. I was inside behind the patio door taking the photo as he was eating at the deck feeder. I still give them a few peanuts every couple of days. But nothing like I was doing in the past.

Super shot … it’s really enjoyable
Another great blue jay photo. Having a feeder sure does provide great opportunities. Love all the bird pix.
Thanks Kim, these are always from behind the door. I cannot seem to get out with the tripod to get more, the weather, plus if you move they are gone.
You need a blind! With a tiny hole cut in it. lol This works though, your glass is always so clean.
with all due respect but I think we should not feed the wild animals.
I feel like that about wild animals but not birds.
ok.. then… good for them … and they are fun to watch actually.
Everytime you do this sorta post I get Mary Poppins flashbacks
You are so funny. Always adding a touch of humor.
….Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul’s
The little old bird woman comes
In her own special way to the people
She calls, “Come, buy my bags full of crumbs”
That’s the one! That song, and the banker’s joke about fat birds
Good thinking to pay attention to your health with the quantity and quality of good and healthy food for you while the birds remain happy to always visit you.
Trying to keep a healthy balance for everyone.
That is indeed very important and necessary!
Such a beautiful bird! Wonderful capture!
Yes they are stunning with different shades of blue. Thanks!
He seems to be enjoying the seed!
I guess they aren’t picky :p
Yes he is cracking it open! Leaving the shells behind for me to clean up.
I guess I have to ask, were there pickets because of no peanuts?
That is funny, no the birds did not slow down eating the seeds, almost as if they never missed them.
Well done! Nice post!
Good to see you, thank you very much!
