I know I’ve covered this considerably over the past year. But I wanted to talk in-depth about a couple of significant changes in the office of tomorrow. First off, one of the things I saw demonstrated the other day was a satellite connection (for networking) that you can put on top your car. What that means is your car is always connected. It was interesting. I have also played with the MiFi, which is a connection to either LTE (which is 4g, Long Term Evolution or 4 g version 2) and 5g which isn’t 4g, it is significantly faster.
But the other side is also interesting. The reality of digital vs physical. When I was first a consultant we used to have to gather travel receipts and then copy them to submit into the expense system. It took time; now, many recipients can be captured digitally and don’t paper. But there are still things that we have to on occasion scan. Portable scanners are impressive today. I have two different portable scanners, and I find that I use them all the time when I am away from home.
The other thing that has improved radically is the printer. We used to have one printer for the primary computers in the house (my wife had two, I had one, and the kids had two). We had color inkjet printers and laser black and white printers. The kids printed a lot more color, but my wife printed a lot more than anyone else did in the house.
Printers now, portable and otherwise are small and useful. You can easily get a small battery-operated thermal printer that prints similar to a laser but does so on regular typing paper. You can also get a portable battery-operated color inkjet printer.
Now the office to tomorrow will ask what are your biggest time constructing today. Is it your network, your printer or something else.
From external USB connected plug and play hard drives to the ever-expanding reality not only of printing but scanning and connection, the office of tomorrow will be where you are. My favorite day as a teacher was the first day of warm spring enough that I could take my class outside and let them read. Your office will be like that in the future. Where you are, when you are!

I have a multi purpose printer, which also scans.
I have one of those in the basement although I don’t remember the last time we used it as a scanner!

I thought about discussing that, but decided not to. That I think is an article in and of itself. For example, today I have to run to the car dealership for car repairs. If I were in Virginia, I would have to go to the dealership really early or really late. Now I can cruise over at lunch and do my conference call in the lounge!

Yes I love it, but I still miss the physical contact with people a little bit.
There is much to be said for talking to people!
I worked from home for a few years. It was very interesting and because of today’s technology I had no problems. He has printers at home with a scanner.
I love working for home now, I don’t have to deal with traffic (which is bad everywhere). The only thing I miss is standing by the coffee machine and talking to a human!
I also missed chatting with coworkers. These were a pleasant moment when we forgot a little about work
that can be an important part of the day I agree.
I use a printer and scanner every now and then. And I also have wifi.
Funny thing, I have a printer on two levels of the house. One (in my wife’s office) gets used every day.
The one in the basement normally gets used once a month. Mostly to print labels when I sell stuff on eBay!
with wifi printers (they both are) everyone in the house can print. But now, other than the person that has to for work, nobody prints.
The two college students don’t even print papers for professors anymore!
I have a printer and a photocopier at home at the same time just not for my needs … this is used by my partner … I also have WiFi, dear friend
Sounds like you a full setup pal! Having space to think is also important!
I don’t use the printer and the copier to spoil anything, dear friend … that’s what my lady does to me …
🙂 we used to have 5 printers in the house. The kids had one in their computer areas and my wife had one, I had one.
now, only 2 so much easier!

we did i finally had to get rid of a number of the printers!
I have had innumerable problems with my printers that I have given up on them. They are scanner cum printers so I use one only as a scanner.
I remember many years ago we did a study, we found that printer drivers were the largest cause of computer failure, period!
I wonder (we did that back in 2004) if that is still the case. I should ask some of my buddies still in that group.
It is such a problem that I have tied up with a local shop to print the stuff i send to him and deliver it to me. Makes my life much easier.
i am sorry to hear that, it is frustrating at best! I know in my house, nobody touches the printers. They wait for me!
And one that is not wired.
I have to say that being a commenter is quick and easy. (Most of my comments are very insightful but I can certainly get this wrapped up quickly.)
Time will tell if it will remain permanent or if I am simply weaning off the site.
