Mom’s in Charge ~ The Elephants

Here is yet another example of Mom’s in charge. Females never leave the herd, partly because they are needed. They learn where the water is, how the migration works and keep the herd together by passing this important information to the females of the herd.Typically every herd has its matriarchal leader. The oldest female takes on that role. She leads a clan of nine to 11 elephants, often the matriarch’s daughters. The males will come and go and mate, but the survival of the herd is held by the matriarch.
