I managed to capture the back side of this Mockingbird in my backyard. I was out watering the birds and there he was perched on the bird pole. Mockingbirds are around all spring and summer. I also see them in the winter. This bird’s famous song, with its varied repetitions and artful imitations, is heard all day during nesting season (and often all night as well). Very common in towns and cities, especially in southern areas, the Mockingbird often seeks insects on open lawns. When running in the open it may stop every few feet and partly spread its wings, flashing the white wing patches.
Mockingbirds are bold in defense of their nests, attacking cats and even humans that venture too close. I have actually been chased by a mockingbird! I got too close to the nest. They are amazing as they imitate the sounds of other birds. That is how this bird got its name. There have been many times I thought I heard a bluebird or a cardinal only to find out it was the mockingbird. Pretty amazing talent.

That’s how I usually paint my magpies- pretty much that same pose
I love the contrasting colors of the magpies. The mockingbirds are a dull grey bird.
Mockingbirds just got the book which was adapted to the film. Magpies got one of the best operas around!
The Thieving Magpie? I did not realize they are considered one of the most intelligent animals in the world.

You know that I only know this bird from a movie or song, like from Barclay James Harvest, or how many other songs with the same title
They are an amazing bird and can be annoying was they are so noisy. But it is so cool when they mimic other birds, car alarms, anything they hear.
It is very impressive and interesting, I’m sure they are greater than other imitators like parrots, cendet, etc.
I would very much like to hear this talented bird imitate

Wonderful capture! There are 3 kinds in Bulgaria, but I am not sure whether we have them in my area.
