Can a broken heart be mended? I believe in time it can. Sometimes it takes a lifetime. And I believe once it is broken it is never exactly the same again. Even after the mending is complete. Or, is it ever completely mended or patched? I believe there are some breaks in our heart that leave a hole that never goes away. I have that forever hole. It is called Dustin. Some things never heal.
I ran across this phenomenal Japanese quote along with the attached photo.
“When the Japanese mend broken objects, the aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe when something’s suffered damage and has a history it becomes more beautiful.” ~Billie Mobayed
Wow that is incredible. As I read the quote, not only was I reminded of all the times I have been knocked down and picked myself back up again, but also an old song that fits in with the subject. The Bee Gees were a great band. One song in particular is titled, How can you mend a broken heart.
Here are the lyrics:
And how can you mend a broken heart
How can you stop the rain from falling down
How can you stop the sun from shining
What makes the world go round
How can you mend this broken man
How can a loser ever win
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again.

I believe a broken heart can be mended to some degree, but there is still a scar.
Yes me too KIm, there is always scars on the heart. But I would want it to other way.
Thank you very much!
Such a beautiful post and allegory! I have heard about this art before and it’s amazing indeed.
Thank you Ellie. I really wish admin would correct the poll answers. They duplicated in error.
Yes, unfortunately, that happens a lot with polls and quizzes. I hope it will be fixed soon! It’s still a wonderful post, thank you for sharing!
I see it is corrected now. Thank you Virily!!!
Everyone certainly has their own experience for the allegory, though not everybody takes it for granted. For me, it is just learning. There are two interesting quotes from Rumi, “The wound is the place where the light enters you,” and “Why do you stay in prison when the door is so wide open?” Which I think is also appropriate for it.
Wow I have never read either of those quotes, thank you Albert. The light comes from the inside out.
We can grasp its meaning broadly and deeply
I’m not 100% half a half. I believe that one who has a broken heart has only suffering.
Not sure what you mean Robin when you say “only suffering”.
There are wounds that stop bleeding. But it remains a sign that reminds us of this event for a lifetime. Even if the gold is glued.
You said it perfectly. I believe the same way.
That’s how I feel it
I agree with you my friend.
Some wounds to the heart stay with us and can be reopened, but the heart has a capacity for love and fullness beyond what most of us can imagine.
Makes sense Paul. There are just some days when I feel there is no more room in my heart.
It’s a natural feeling to have sometimes. It’s no accident that the shortest verse in the Bible is “Jesus wept”. Jesus, the greatest healer in recorded history, felt the same anguish we feel at loss. So those days are part of our heart’s journey, not it’s conclusion. Jesus also said, “Blessed are they who mourn, they shall be comforted”. That may feel like small comfort today Carol, But it will come to pass.
Thank you Paul. You have helped a lot. My Dad used to tell me these same things and now he is gone. I really needed this encouragement.
Sorry about the duplicate answers in the poll. I have asked for it to be corrected.
