Author Joyce Carol Oates is known as the modern master of Gothic horror and has been nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. She is well-known for writing tales of terror that are really scary. She has written over 100 books. To get an idea of her writing you can begin with her story collection “Haunted: Tales of the Grotesque”.
If you like you can also take a look at her famous short story “Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been?” which was inspired by the real-life serial killer Charles Schmid, who was known as the “Pied Piper of Tucson”. You can find the best of her on Goodreads. This story has been adapted into a movie titled “Smooth Talk” from 1985.
Her novel “We Were the Mulvaneys” was made into a TV movie starring Beau Bridges and Blythe Danner.

I am not familiar with her and this has never been a favorite of mine to watch or read.
i have to say I went through a phase. I read her stuff and King’s stuff. I was intrigued by the reality of beyond.
Unfortunately, I didn’t read anything by this writer.
