As a kid I remember just eating rose petals not from my garden but flicked from the neighbour’s. For some reason roses did not do well in mother’s garden. She had several other flowers.
I gave up that practice when I grew up as I thought it was a kid thing. Little did I know then rose petals have health benefits. I am a big girl now but somehow I do not like the taste of rose petals any more.
I have strewn petals on the floor at events – I am a party organiser. They are also used as confetti at weddings.
I watched a cookery show where contestants were merrily adding rose petals in their dishes. Rose water is also a toner.
Most importantly rose petals are used for making rose water which is used to sprinkle on guests on auspicious occasions.
Rose water can be prepared at home. You can go around and collect those petals specially rose petals from roses that are on the verge of withering.
Here is a recipe for making rose water at home

If you have rose petal you can do that You can find recipes on the Net.
I found a recipe, i have in garden rose.
I just put them in a ventilated place to dry and then spray and gently. This is how I maintain their aroma until the new harvest.
That is one more way to make use of the petals.
Thanks for sharing the helpful info. I didn’t know much about that.
We all learn here from each other
I don’t have much use of roses …
but I guess I did use some product with rosewater
Some use them in recipes, specially desserts.
I remember what I did to the rose given to me by my suitor. I kept it inside my book. I wanted to preserve it so when it dried down I made it as a decoration in my portfolio.
I suppose such preserves could be made with other flowers as well.
The only thing I have done is made potpourri with dried petals.
I got to know about this when I was in the US. They make it with different things and sell them too
Yes I am aware of it I just have not been interested in it, that’s all.
I use them as decoration on puddings and pies, sometimes in fruit salads. I add them to the compost bin when I don’t use them in the kitchen.
Nice idea to use them as decoration in your cuisine Throwing them in the compost bin is the last resort I guess.
Thank you for sharing information about rose petals.
Have you not made use of them in any way?
We don’t have any roses and don’t use them anyway for any purpose.
we dry them during the summer and then use them in our homemade pot pouri in the winter!
Oh yes How can one forget that. I got introduced to it when I was holidaying in the US. And they were selling this dry stuff that had a whole lot of different things. They sold it along with some light cologne to be poured over it.
we use various scents depending on how deep into winter we are. Vanilla, Cinnamon and others make the house smell warm and inviting.
I remember I got lavender.
another wonderful scent to fill the house with!
I know they make great perfumes out of roses but it has healing effects but I didn’t know … I never tried a rose leaf so I don’t know what it tastes like
Not rose leaves but rose petals. They have not taste but someting that has a great aroma do taste good. I ate them as a kid but I would not eat it now.
I know that rose petal also has curative properties.
They do have curative properties. They also make rose wine. If I had many roses, I would have tried. As we have made wines from several fruits
