making writing sites better – follow up on yesterday

Based on the comments and the information I got in two PMs, I want to iterate a couple of things. First, and most critically, there is a community here. We all contribute what we can and want to help. Nobody should ever tell you what you can and cannot do on the site. It is wholly and ultimately what you can and what you want to do that is the only thing you should worry about. No one should tell you that your comments are impacting the site. The reality of each of our situations is we do what we can do. I wanted to let everyone know that they are important, that everyone on the site contributes, and we do what we can do. Nobody is unique or more important than you.

One of the things that I have noticed lately is that first, the random comments are helping. Many posts are getting more views. It is essential, however, that we do the best we can do. Traditionally opinions are down 20% or so in July and August as they should be. Family is always the first and most important thing and based on that vacations and being with family are critical for all of us. Recharging is essential and helps us be more successful as we move through our daily lives.  Clarification is vital, and I want to be transparent. The goal of this and any site is to be a core piece of what people want to do with their time. IF authors don’t want to do something, we have to consider that.

I will end today with something positive. It appears that some of the minor quirks with the site are improving. Polls are better but not fixed. The workaround does get us to work, but it takes a lot more time to produce a working survey. My personal goal with this site online, in general, is to cut my time not to increase it. For an 8 question poll, the workaround can add as much as 15 minutes of effort. Between that and writing, it is too long sometimes. So the fact that the polls do appear to be working. I don’t do quizzes, so I can’t speak to them, but I will say that elections are better. They are not perfect, but the good news is they are working a little.
