Making Chinese steamed buns

One of my friends shared a recipe about Chinese steamed buns with me last week, and I tried and made a few batches. We usually call them Mantou in Mandarin, as there isn’t any filling. I used pumpkins or sweet potatoes to make these steamed buns. The kids enjoy making the buns in different shapes. I also learned to make the rose shape as taught in the video tutorial. But I actually prefer to eat the simple shape.

    • I like that as well. We call it “Cha Siu Pao”. There are also steamed buns with different fillings, but I think those with pork fillings are the famous ones. 🙂

    • Thanks! This is the first time I tried making the rose steamed buns. It’s not as difficult as I thought, though not everyone I made is pretty. Some of them in the picture actually made by my sons.
