The beginning of the week always comes with the challenge Macro Monday. For today I chose a wild flower in Romania; Viper’s bugloss (Echium vulgare). The plant has been known since antiquity because it was used by the inhabitants of today’s borders of Romania to treat snake bites, anemia, diarrhea, toothache, eczema. What I find interesting about this plant is that unopened flowers are pink in colour and they turn into bright blue when they are opened.
Another interesting thing about this plant is the contrasting blue pollen with red stamens.Blue wildflowers are not uncommon, however very few have the beautiful blue colouration of viper’s bugloss.
