Macro Monday – Red Hibiscus Flower

Hibiscus is a genus of flowering plants. The plant in my garden is a small shrub with very large flowers. It is popular as an ornate plant across the world. It is also believed by some to have certain medicinal values. But such claims are not validated by scientific studies. Certain species of Hibiscus can be used for paper making, rope making and landscaping. Dried hibiscus is taken as a food item in some places. Hibiscus tea is a beverage liked by many around the world.

The color of the flowers can be pink, white, red, peach, orange or yellow. The red Hibiscus flower shown here is the most common one found in South India.

  1. It’s quite common here, and it’s our national flower, though I don’t know why it’s chosen to be the national flower. 😛

I usually see red hibiscus, and I am happy to find other colors, such as orange.
