Macro Monday – Forgotten herbs – Ground-ivy

No new macrophotos this winter, so come today with a photo taken last spring! O mica floare a unei plante salbatice cunoscuta sub numele de Ground-ivy.

Ground-ivy  is an aromatic plant that loves temperate areas. In our country, it grows through orchards, on the edge of forests, in shady and humid places. The flower can be found in various shades of blue and purple. Although today many people consider it just a weed, throughout the European history it has been highly appreciated.

It has many therapeutic properties, appreciated in phytotherapy, – it contains – volatile oil, choline, bitter substances, tannins, fatty substances, saponozides, waxes, resins.

Be careful! Consumed in large quantities it is a toxic plant.

For medicinal purposes is used the aerial part of the plant. It has an aroma that resemblesof the mint, which is why in some areas it is called – the dog’s mint.
