On occasion I come across something that makes me kind of sad. The luna moth is bright and really interesting looking, in my opinion. They are designed so they can hide from their major predator, bats.
In the best of circumstances the month has a very short life span. It begins as a hungry caterpillar. The caterpillar is fond of the leaves of hickory trees, sweet gum trees, walnut trees and birch trees. It gets it fill of food for approximately a month. Then the caterpillar cacoons.
When it breaks from the caccon as an adult moth it has no mouth or digestive system. Why? Because they don’t eat. The moth lives a relative short time to mate, carry on the species and be bat bait. They normally live as a moth about one week.
It’s kind of sad.

I answered that I have never seen a Luna Moth because I’ve never seen one in the wild. I have seen live ones in exhibits and I have a mounted one on my wall.
