Loka outdoor museum – Mill

As I mentioned in one of the previous postings, in the outdoor museum in Škofja Loka we can also see a mill. Featured craft mill with a milling machine and stop and cereals, which were once planted in the Loka. The first mention of the mill at Loka can be found in the deed of gift from the year 973. The first mills, registered in the land register in 1291, stood by the river Sora and were owned by the landowner. The town is its natural location and water power enabling various craft activities: milling, sawing, leather, linen, etc. Unfortunately, there are no more these crafts today.

  1. In Bulgaria there is a similar open-air museum of architecture and ethnography. They show how old craft work is done. I’m glad you and you are introducing us to the Open-Air Museum Loka.

  2. What a cool picture you captured! I love mills. My wife is a huge cornmeal fan, and the mill near where we used to live, would actually grind the cornmeal in the old stones of the mill as you waited.
