Lady to Reckon With

I’ve heard of crazy ladies and dames that make you roll your eyes but this one takes the cake. Elizabeth Bathory was a Hungarian noblewoman born in Transylvania. She became an infamous serial slayer. Perhaps somewhere down the line, she had connections with another scary Romanian Count Dracula but who knows I am just guessing.

Anyway, this woman used her position of power to defend herself from the consequences of her actions, She made her husband Count Nadasdy build her a torment chamber called Cachtice Castle in Cachtice, Slovakia. What the lady enjoyed the most was eating her prey. Oh, yes human prey. While her prisoner was still alive she would eat chunks of her. At one time Bathory forced a prisoner to cook and eat some of their own body. It does make your hair stand on end.

Finally, when no one could control her any longer there was a trail. It was thought that she tortured and killed hundreds of young women in the 16th and 17th centuries. She was convicted on 80 counts and instead of being sentenced to death, she was put in solitary confinement in her own castle. In 1614 just three years later she perished. Personally I think the angry spirits of her dead prisoners made sure she died so they could further torture her.
