Kent Haruf: Our Souls at Night

The book’s cover, colors, texture create a special and mature mood for readers. And the small volume of the book promises short reading and deep thought of the book.

I start reading and can’t believe I’m reading so easily and quickly. I read the book and feel absolutely nothing, even start looking for questions and answers, why is it so exalted?!

I think for a long time and then I start to feel anger, sadness, compassion, even though I still didn’t understand why we are so selfish sometimes and why we listen to other people’s speeches instead of trying to get to know a person without any preconceived notions. Why are we lonely and unhappy?

And then I realize that this is the message of the book for me. 

It is a truly mature book, intertwined with the fates of old single people and the wishes and ambitions of young people. Probably until you are young you don’t notice and underestimate a lot.

It may not have been one of the best books I’ve read, but if you want a quick read with a little melancholy, you might like this story by Edes and Louis.
