Keeping It Clean

Here’s another photo from the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia. It’s a beautiful place and if you have the chance, you should visit it. There were very strict rules about littering and even though the place was extremely crowded, I wasn’t able to spot a single piece of garbage. For some reason, this impressed me a lot. I rarely see so many people following the rules diligently.

  • Question of

What’s the best way to prevent littering?

    • Knowing littering harms wildlife
    • Knowing littering harms our health
    • More trash cans
    • Severe fines when someone is caught littering
    • Nothing will stop those who want to litter
  • Question of

How often do you drop litter?

    • Often
    • Sometimes
    • Never
  • Question of

If you drop litter, why do you do it?

    • There’s no bin
    • I don’t care
    • On accident
    • Other (tell me in the comments)
  • Question of

What would you do when you see someone who litters?

    • Pick up the trash for them
    • Tell them to throw it out
    • Nothing
    • Other (tell me in the comments)

  1. Hmm.. I wish everyone would understand the need to stop littering. We just cleaned up our street last week. People just trow stuff all around.

  2. The Plitvice Lakes are a truly stunning place. I don’t know how we can force people to waste. It depends a lot on the people themselves. I don’t understand these people.

  3. I think there should be more trash cans or you need to take a bag with you for that purpose and depose of it later.
Now if I drop something by accident I pick it up.
Often pick up after other people and sometimes clean up after a person who leaves a mess in a shop.
I am not a person who does that at home all the time, I am by nature messy (I would like to be tidier)but in a public place I think consideration is due.

  5. this is a really hard question and situation. One of the things that we do is walk our dogs every day. There is a law where we live about the reality of picking up after your dog. We walk the same path every day.

We always make an effort to pick our dogs, and at least one other dog pile every day. the thing is there are always other dogs that aren’t cleaned up after.

The same is true of litter.

  6. I have an abiding loathing of people who drop litter. The worst example I ever saw was a young man who dropped a used drinks can on the ground – despite the fact that he was sitting on a litter bin at the time!

    • Unfortunately, I have seen worse things. For example, people who throw garbage through the car window, which can be dangerous as well. Or people from cars who slow down and throw whole bags of garbage by the road. Not to mention construction waste. Luckily, these things are not that common in the last years.

  7. I know Plitvice Lakes very well, dear Ellie … in my opinion, the high penalties have led them to such an order, although not all is so beautiful … there are people who care little about nature and do not even learn the punishments

  8. Wow! It’s a very beautiful place, people must respect it and keep it clean!
Actually, wherever people are not allowed to litter, unfortunately, people’s awareness is sometimes low. Some beautiful tourist attractions have been closed because of that kind of problem.

  9. People are gonna do what they do unfortunately but if I see someone litter, I usually pick it up. Depends, sometimes I might say to t hem they dropped something. You just have to be careful.
