Is It Time To Open the Presents Yet?

The Christmas holiday is often heavily influenced by traditions for most folks. Those traditions can be minor or major and they are often passed down from one generation to the next. We tend to do them because we’ve always done them in that way. One of those traditions has to do with the opening of Christmas gifts.

Some families open all of their gifts on Christmas Eve. Some open them on Christmas Day. Still others open one gift on Christmas Eve and the rest on Christmas Day. For that matter, in some families, there aren’t many gifts; perhaps one for each member of the family from each other member of the family. In other families, there are numerous gifts. In some cases, each person opens a gift while everyone else watches so they can see the expression and reaction of the person opening the gift. In other cases, the gifts are passed out and everyone opens their gifts at the same time.

  1. When we choose to celebrate Christmas (we are not this year) Someone always remembers Mom and peaks at all the presents. Well, maybe not that one brother, but the rest of us all open them and wrap them back up for Christmas morning. This year we are not celebrating.

    • LOL…that wouldn’t work for us. We open gifts like little kids and the paper gets pretty much shredded, so rewrapping them would be quite a trick, requiring skills for putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Is there a particular reason you aren’t celebrating? Or should I not ask?

    • We usually do, too, though we often open one gift on Christmas Eve. That was started to maintain peace in the household. lol I believe that the idea behind opening them on Christmas Eve comes from the actual Christ’s Mass that’s held at midnight.
