Is Chicago getting out of control?

01 Apr 2019

Last week the Chicago police stopped the car of a drug dealer. His car was loaded with illegal drugs and he was also armed. As they were in the process of arresting the dealer, people from the neighborhood, all carrying weapons, surrounded the police. The police were forced to let the dealer go free or be killed themselves.

This is the first time that I am aware of that something like this has happened. It has not received a lot of publicity because things that are embarrassing to our politicians are generally swept under the rug and we are having an election for a new mayor tomorrow.

I don’t blame the police for backing down in this situation. I do blame our politicians who have tied the hands of the police so that things got to this point. I’m also not sure how it could be stopped at this point.

    • It was actually better back then. There was very little collateral damage back then. And, as unusual as it sounds, there was some kind of moral code among the gangsters. There is nothing like that today and collateral damage is very common.

    • The problem is people like Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton and Michael Pfleger who have told people that they are victims and that the whites hate them. They profit off sowing seeds of hatred and division.

    • There are good sections of Chicago and bad sections. I’ve lived in Chicago for over 50 years and never been the victim of any crime. Most of the crime is in portions of the city with a large street gang presence.

    • Despite the campaign rhetoric, both candidates are Democrats who came up through the machine This is going to be another caseof voting against one rather than voting for the other.

  1. Good point, gangs in NZ are loaded with guns, but now the NZ government are asking people to hand in their semi automatic weapons, because of the Mosque massacre at Christchurch.
    The NZ gangs have refused.

    • That’s why gun control never works. The law-abiding people turn in their weapons but they aren’t the ones who commit these crimes. The gangs aren’t going to turn in their weapons and, even if the police manage somehow to confiscate some of them, they just get more.

In the USA gun ownership has doubled since 1995. In that same period violent crime dropped drastically. The cities with the most gun violence are the ones with the strictest gun laws.

      • Yes, the problem with crime is not the punishment so much it always begins with an absence of moral conscience. Often the people who commit crimes think that they are right.
The reason why people in NZ don’t legalised guns is to prevent retaliation. Not sure that really anything works
You have to go back to moral conscience.
