Is A Robot About To Take Over Your Human Job?

Automation and artificial intelligence (AI) currently threatens the existence of millions of jobs across the world.

Without a doubt, the loss of human jobs due to Automation; AI and Robotic Processes continues on a daily basis. But a word of caution. “Not every job is at risk of being displaced by AI innovation”.

All AI technologies and subsets, particularly; machine learning, neural networks, and deep learning, are already having a huge impact on the world of work – as new technology creates some new types of jobs; while also, deleting many of the existing jobs.

The current replacement of some human workers by machines; and the subsequent loss of jobs is really one of the main problems caused by artificial intelligence (AI).

Millions of jobs and people are being affected, as the changes brought about by AI and its subsets are all happening very quickly, and taking most people by surprise.

Imagine the shock which has been experienced by so many people who have arrived at work only to be told by their Human Resources team, that they are now being replaced by robots.

The effects of AI are now impacting upon everyone, to varying extents. AI has changed the employment prospects, opportunities, lifestyles, attitudes, aspirations and challenges for everyone; as AI has gone into overdrive, and swiftly become mainstream.

  3. Sorry to hear about your husband losing his job in the sign-writing business. Your are quite right – that area of work and many other related processes/areas, such as: graphic design, illustration, plate-making, printing, publishing, bookselling, digital rights and their supply-chains all suffered from a cliff-edge automation that disrupted them literally overnight many years ago.

    • Quite right, Gary. But there are now many AI uses, services and products aimed at helping retired people (and also disabled people) in healthcare, companionship, housework, mobility/infirmity assistance, leisure gaming, transportation, meals-preparation etc It has all happened so fast ?

  5. Interesting article and poll. I would only add one question and that is, do you believe there are jobs that robots could do better, allowing humans to do what they are better at? The reality in the next two-five years is that AI (which is vastly different than Robotics) will replace mundane tasks that humans don’t do well at. Robotics already has replaced many repetitive jobs, making it easier for humans to do things that don’t damage their bodies and minds.

    • Robotics, robots and robotic automated processes (RPA) are all part of AI; and they are now based on self-learning AI Algorithms.
      Robotics technology uses many AI subsets to function effectively such as Machine Learning; Neural Networks, Deep Learning, Visualisation, Edge-Computing, Quantum Computing amongst others. Robotics is only one of the many areas for the applications of AI technologies.
      AI has already replaced many mundane tasks in industry. You should check out some of the progress which AI has made to date.

      • I design robotic and AI systems. It is my focus to replace human labor where mistakes can be devastating. Not all robotics, however, function in the AI area. Some robots are simply replacement systems, such as the welding torch on an assembly line. Your definition is a little broad.

  6. Sorry Im retired but my husband in the sign writing business lost work over night due to computers. On the same hand, so did many Graphic Designers and Illustrators who did it all by hand. Overnight jobs all gone.
