Inspiration

A group of acquaintances were sitting at a dinner table talking about inspiration. What started out as a simple discussion turned into a firestorm of opinions, ideas, examples and conversation. It made me and many others, pay and attention and think a little more broadly about what can inspire people and how quick we may be at making judgements.

At the beginning of the conversation most of the inspiring things sounded light, happy and “normal” for lack of a better word. Then one bold and thoughtful person said, “I think that when I am inspired by hate I am most diligent, honest, and really make my goals happen.”

The conversation became silent and the speaker realized that everyone was staring in that direction.

“Honestly, if I “hate” the way someone is treating another human being, I am inspired to get involved and make certain that changes are made. It is the hate and anger that inspires me and still I believe that good things happen because of the inspiration.”

Things got quiet because people were truly pondering.

Another person at the table offered an idea.  “I think it would be a great idea would be to have everyone write down the top twenty “events” in history and we can meet next week and really look at the whole picture of inspiration.

You could see that people were really thinking and wondering.
