Importance of Hugs

Hugs are not just a way of expressing concern for a person and showing that you support him in both good and difficult times. Hugs is a medicine that helps moderate the production of stress hormones, lower blood pressure and even prevent depression.

When hugging someone, we start the process of producing oxytocin in the body, which is a hormone of confidence. Hugs make us happy: they increase the level of dopamine – the hormone of pleasure, and it fills us with joy. Hugs are a cure for stress: they reduce the level of cortisol (a stress hormone) that causes stress.

Hugs reduce anxiety associated with thoughts of death and make us feel less alone: serotonin is produced, and this reduces the feeling of loneliness.
