It’s the month of the Hungry Ghost Festival.
The Chinese believe that for a whole month of the 7th month (on the lunar calendar), the gate of hell will open and the spirits/ghost will be let out… This year, the gate opened on 11 August and will close on 9th September.
During this period, people will start making offerings and burning paper incenses. There will also be performances, like Ge tai (temporary stage for concert) …
There are also many taboos during this period like not staying out too late, do not step on the offerings… there are a whole list of them.

Sounds interesting and spooky lol
I’m looking forward to seeing a festival
I like festivals like these. It’s fun.
Yes and no… lol
i used to fear this one when I was a kid lol
Ahh yeah the title itself is a bit scary, but it was fun the marching bands and so on.
I like to watch festivals and carnivals of all peoples from all over the world
That’s good to hear!
You’re so accepting!!
That looks like an highly impressive festival. Lots to see and very loud I would guess.
Yes, it’ll be loud and there will be some level of “air pollution” due to the burning and ashes.
I believe in spirits, but it’s hard to comment on heaven and hell. But one thing, there is always a foundation of a belief, and as a festival, it is very impressive!
Btw, If you allow, I am willing to haunt you during that time…
But why would you? You’ll need to be dead to haunt someone?
lol
Hmmm… we don’t have to die first to haunt someone. After all, I’m happy to make you scared. lol
Well, I’ll get my revenge… Albert… watch it!! LOL
Awww… Now I’m so scared…
Be wise, there is no need to take revenge.
I know this is about the egui, but for some reason it has me thinking about jiang shi (not the same thing)
LOL… they’re they same thing in a way…
both are “Chinese Horror”…
and who knows both are let out … :/
Right, but the egui are actual ghosts while the jiang shi have physical bodies
Now that you mentioned … I didn’t really give these a thought… lol
I just thought both are scary but yeah the physical part is so true
I think about it all the time. Sometimes I hop around the house…
I am not familiar of course but sounds very interesting.
Well… It is but I was extremely afraid of this “festival” when I was young… lol
Thank you.I say that every nation and every culture has its own customs and vampires, and Chinese ghosts.
Yes, that’s true…
I do not believe in surreal things..but I like such festivals.
Hmm… you like scary festivals?
Yes, I love everything that’s fun.The Balkans have such events…Festivals with masks are held mostly on April 1 and during religious holidays.
