Honoring Those Who Have Gone Before

Our cemetery is not beautiful. It has no grass. It’s not very decorative. There are some beautiful headstones, but in general it is not a wonderful, beautiful place to visit. Tomorrow however, it will be glorious, thanks to two young boys who wanted to do something that had never been done in our little town before.

Every year the small flags are put on graves of those who served and that is important. These two boys decided they needed something beautiful. So they worked hard and earned money all year long. They contacted a floral company (who wants to remain nameless to talk about prices and delivery). The company asked  the boys to send pictures of the cemetery.

We received the flowers today and what happened literally gave me goosebumps. There were trucks, in my yard, not one but many. A nice young man knocked on the door and said “Mam, are you ready to get to work?”

The company the boys ordered the flowers from had talked to the sexton and got information on all the graves. The veterans will have the patriotic sprays the boys worked so hard for and bought. The company donated sprays for every other grave.

There are ones that are different for men, women and children.

It’s very early here and  it will probably take all the day. The men who delivered the flowers said they were staying to help with the chore. My husband quickly piped up and said not without a good breakfast.  It’s not even 6:30 am here and we are getting ready to eat and then heading across the street to get busy.
