This is great news for those who like spicy food and even for those who don’t mind eating something spicy now and then. It has been discovered that chilies can help you live longer. In studies that were done they found that the active ingredient in hot red chili peppers, capsaicin has the ability to boost metabolism, strengthen the cardiovascular system, help reduce high blood pressure and even obesity. People who regularly ate chili peppers had a 13% reduced risk of premature death as compared with those who didn’t eat hot peppers. So it turns out that red chili peppers can be a beneficial dietary component.

In further studies over a six-year period, researchers came to the conclusion that hot red chili peppers could help prolong life. However the main idea is to eat a well-balanced diet and in this diet include a variety of fruits and vegetables, don’t over shake the salt shaker, eat less saturated fats, stay active and avoid smoking. You can also include chili peppers like I do I have red chili pepper flakes and I sprinkle a bit of them on top of foods. Top it all off with some chili peppers added to different foods. I don’t like my food too spicy but I do like to eat marinated hot peppers with different dishes. Just writing about this I will be including more chili peppers in my diet just to spice things up and hey, who knows, perhaps adding on some years to my life.

  1. We eat chili, we grow chili and probably need to cut on eating them. My wife grows enough on our rooftop in India that lasts for whole of the year. We have the hottest chilies in “Ghost (Bhoot) Pepper and Naga Pepper” grown in India.

  2. The small Thai ornamental peppers are still burning a hole in my stomach from 30 years ago!

    I love eating peppers, they add a wonderful flavor. But as in your apple post, you are right eating a balanced diet is the best solution!!!
