Happy To See The Drongo Again

The drongos are medium sized birds usually black or grey. They can easily be identified by their long forked tails. We used to see a lot of drongos a few years ago, but not so now. I was happy to see a few drongos in the park at the lake.

These drongos were more grayish  unlike the black drongos I am used to seeing. These birds feed on bees, wasps , butterflies and other small insects. They often take on eagles and vultures to protect their young ones. I have once seen a drongo fighting with a dark eagle which was twice or maybe thrice its size.

They steal food from other birds and so are termed cleptoparasitic birds. They are also good at imitating other bird calls and often imitate birds of prey to make smaller birds leave their food and fly into hiding. They are clever but I guess lazy birds.
