Halloween for Kids?
We belong to Asian countries and Halloween is not practically celebrated or held. However, particularly in our country Philippines, some of the people are observing that, for they believe that this is influenced by Christianity. Thus, All Saint’s Day is nationally observed by the Filipinos, the Catholics so to speak.
I don’t know where this practice or custom originated. As far as I know it is well advertised in the TV and the Americans are having this kind of party. Since it has spread or influenced our culture due to Christian influence of celebrating All Saint’s Day, kids and adults are putting make-up for themselves to look them scary. The scarier they are, they love it and feel happy about it.
This is the first time that our grandchildren let themselves make up by their aunt. They want to look scary. They want to scare passers by. You know what had happened. The passers by were amused, entertained of their scary look and in return they were given candies.
Their parents, and us, their grandparents are happy for them too. Their uncle and aunties are happy as well.
I think we find no problem about that. What about you?

I think it’s great that you are positive and open-minded about it. The more holidays, the better.
That’s what I am after of. I want our grandchildren to appreciate the value of such activity for their happiness. After all we are there to look after them and apt to control them in case it is to their disadvantage.

That’s my question too but as I have observed children are enjoying it.
Halloween is best celebrated by watching your kids like a hawk since kid thieves are out there not to mention poisoned candy and stuff like that.
We don’t have that kind of kids in our place.
Thank goodness since the horror stories from the news in America is that black cats get kidnapped.
Kids don’t know about that. Kids don’t get used to news abroad or whatever. Their parents control them on what to read or watch in the TV.
That is good parenting skills to keep kids away from darkness program news.
Halloween use to be safe and fun many years ago, but now it seems more frightening. Razors in candy etc.
That’s terrible. But here in our place, we don’t have that kind of practice.
Those are great costumes. Halloween originally started in Catholic Europe. It is All Hallows Eve, the day before All Saints Day. Kids used to dress up as their favorite saint. After the Reformation, English Protestants would try to scare the kids by dressing up is scary costumes. I’m not sure how the going door-to-door for candy started.
Unless a child has recently undergone some trauma, they should be fine. There’s nothing wrong with a good, non-violent scare.
You’re right. Kids are enjoying as well as the adults especially their parents.
Halloween is fun for many. I do enjoy seeing the children playing.
Me too I enjoy and amuse for their scary activity.
Honestly I would be completely ok with doing away with Halloween. But many kids enjoy getting the candy and dressing up.
I may agree with you but it becomes now a yearly tradition.
