and I have touched the sky.
Reaching
with hands empty
and eyes clenched shut
fingers grasping
the air
blue flowing around us
through us
beyond us
stretching for the sky.
To reach
the edge of clouds
and
lasso them
with a giant rope
that closing about the middle
of the clouds
pulls them to the ground.
We cannot now see
with clouds around us
as we stop reaching for the sky.
The sky now with us
drowns out the sound of laughter
and we reach for the ground.

Yesterday I still aspired to be an astronaut, and suddenly today my children are talking about marriage plans.
Many years ago, I applied for the teacher in the space program from NASA. I was not in the first 10 selected, and sadly the only teacher ever sent to space (Christa McAuliffe) died in the Challenger disaster.
I as well wished to be an astronaut.
We are past talking about weddings, our daughters is September 2019
Innocence, maybe that’s the term, for me who wants to be an astronaut at 12 years old, it feels not long ago, and suddenly I’m at a time when my youngest daughter is 26 years old, isn’t that a feeling of how fast time passes?
I suspect the moment we realize that age has caught us in our race, it is time to reflect!
I think that’s exactly what we need to do…
“regrets fill paper bags
and alone
we sip
until we slide into oblivion.”
From a poem, I published many years ago. It is ok to remember. It is wonderful to recall but always remember yesterday’s failures remain in the past. They do not control tomorrow!
Yeah. I sleep some and the kids are all suddenly grown up. Reminded me that, indeed, I am old ???.
It does feel like time passes far too quickly!
The real ones seem to go up to the sky. Beautiful view.
🙂 it is interesting when I traveled all the time, I always went to the top of the tallest building in that city. The world looks different from above.
The view from the highest building must be unique. I do not know if I would dare look down ?
I don’t like heights much, but I made myself look down.
I step back in time a lot. Those memories keep me sane. (I hope!)
I understand that and I hope they keep me sane (as well)!
That’s Right Nice Doc.. Pict also Great!
Thanks, Hamza, I am glad you liked it.
hmm, its okey wlcm!!!
Absolutely life goes by much too quickly. I often wish to go back in time.
I wrote that poem many years ago, I am trying to share some of the old ones I never shared before.
This one was about the loss of a good friend right after high school.
