According to the Catholic calendar, the Advent begins on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. It’s Sunday between November 27th and December 3rd – this year it’s Sunday December 1st and is called the first Advent Sunday. Advent time ends after the fourth Advent Sunday – on Holy Night (the night before Christmas). A typical advent symbol is a four-candle advent wreath. On the first Advent Sunday, believers light one candle, on the second Sunday two candles, on the third three and on the fourth all four candles. The Advent wreath is widespread in many unbelievers as well – in this case often without candles.

I know your customs a little too, dear friend
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear friend
As I recall, this is the second time I feel you are very excited about celebrating Advent, dear friend. Hopefully, this will be a part of your beautiful end of the year.
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear Albert….these are for me the most beautiful holidays of the year and I really feel comfortable and happy
Keep the countdown going, lado. Christmas is almost here.
Thanks for viewing and a friendly comment, dear friend….it’s really fast approaching …. I light three more spark plugs
Such a precious tradition, it probably makes you more excited about the holidays!
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear Ellie….these are for me the most beautiful holidays of the year
we haven’t done that since the kids were little. yours is quite lovely pal!!!!
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear friend….but I keep that custom from a young age … my mom got so oiled up and I just got nauseous …. I don’t know, I just really like that custom … but I don’t go to church
we used to but now, the kids are always busy. oh well.
I have had that left from my youth, dear friend … I have enough time and so little to remember my childhood
for me many of the traditions of childhood slid away over the years. I am glad you are maintaining that connection!!!
Everything was forgotten about me too … but I’ll stick with it as long as I can
Forgive my ignorance but I did not know there were candles on an Advent wreath I have 3 but none have candles.
Thanks for viewing and a friendly comment, dear Pamela…no problem … we’ve been learning all our life …. but now you know that candles are and how and for what purpose we light them
I think its a very nice tradition. I love candles but could never light one here, as it would be a fire risk.
I used to like “Carols by candlelight ” in churches but the last one I went to replaced the candles with balloons and I felt let down.
I think Candles are much prettier.
Now they have all the gadgets to keep the candle burning very safely … of course the candle only burns when I’m home
dimly remembering my mum doing this
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear friend….it may not have not such a tradicion
it is a tradition out here, just not one my family observed more than a few times
I was left with this from my childhood and I like it so I continue this tradition
which is nice, it gives you a way to connect with your heritage
It’s a nice custom for me, dear friend
It is a tradition that I have stopped following. Traditions stop with the physical realm we need to work on the spiritual realm in preparation for our Lord’s coming.
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear Dawn….each has its own way of anticipating and celebrating Christmas
This is a nice practice and tradition. We do not have it here.
Thanks for viewing and a friendly comment, dear Grace…each has its own way of anticipating and celebrating Christmas
I used to have an Advent wreath but being alone I just light a candle,
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear friend….but now you no longer have it?
No, I don’t get a wreath just light a candle
In our country, they are crazy about these garlands …. you have them as much as you want, and for a little money
I am not very religious to follow all these traditions, I celebrate only Christmas.
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear friend….I’m not pious either, and I don’t go to church alone, I celebrate it from childhood and I like it
I do not celebrate but enjoy your tradition!
Thanks for viewing and a friendly comment, dear Carol….everyone celebrates in their own way … I’m glad you like the custom
Yes I do and I always enjoy learning about your customs.
Thanks, dear Carol ….. I’m really glad you like this custom
I have an Advent wreath and candles are burning.
Thanks for watching and kind comment, dear Vidocka…you have that custom….i like it very much
Yes, I like this custom very much.
For me, this is the best time of the year, dear Vidocka
My dear lado, Orthodox friends, we do not have the custom you are writing about.
There are similarities and differences between the various churches.
Thank you for your visit and nice comment, dear Robin….I know that you celebrate Orthodox believers a little differently …. everyone has their own customs … we also have an Orthodox church in Ljubljana
Thank you lado, it’s a beautiful church. As a kid, I lived near the Catholic Church.
I went to visit her a couple of times. I was fascinated by the look.
The church is beautiful in its own way … I’ve also visited quite a few Orthodox churches and I will still … hope to visit Belgrade and the Temple of Saint Sava in the second year
If you come to Belgrade to reach Banovo Brdo, there is a Catholic church. There are also Catholic sisters who treat the sick.
They have a special building where they live.
And the Saint Sava Temple is the only Temple in Serbia and is truly grandiose.
And you can contact me to leave you my phone number and call me in Borca.
Be my guest
Thank you very much, dear Robin …. for your kindness … we are definitely in a relationship and if I really decide it would be nice to meet and not have another coffee together
