Fences

“Don’t ever take a fence down until you know why it was put up.” ~ Robert Frost

Fences are boundaries. This quote has value in a physical sense and a metaphorical sense.

A close friend purchased a beautiful home and it was a sturdy tall fence. She couldn’t see beyond the fence. She told her husband she wanted the fencing removed and without question he hired a crew to do so.

Two doors down were neighbors who have three very large dogs. She had never seen them.

The fence had not only kept the dogs at bay, but it soundproofing so  they had never heard the dogs.

As a metaphor setting boundaries and protecting yourself and family from outside influences and exposure to unwanted things, it makes sense.  So Robert Frost was correct and this quote in my opinion is sound advice.
