One of the gotcha’s in the headset world today is that of UC vs. other. UC headsets are designed to work with your computer, your phone or to work with both. The difference being that some UC headsets are locked or are paired with a USB key some are open and can pair with anything. UC represents the headsets designed for voice communication via your computer. If you don’t have a Voice Over IP account (this includes Skype and others), you don’t need a UC headset. But in the future, you may have a VOIP (Voice over IP) connection. Based on that I would recommend you consider if you are headset shopping getting one that is built to do both.
ANC is another interesting problem, it is the new automated noise-canceling system. The better the headset the addition of both an ANC microphone and ANC earbuds or headsets. Personally, I have one in the ear headset (The Polycom reviewed last week Polycom 5200 UC). I use it on my work computer to connect to my VOIP phone or sometimes called a soft phone. I have a couple of other headsets, and they come in a variety of types.
• Over the ear headset
o One ear
o Two ears
o Wired
o wireless
• In the ear headset
o One ear
o Two ears
o Wired
o wireless
The reality of headsets, though is that you, the user, have to need headsets and want the type you get. In my house, there is one person that doesn’t use headsets at all. There are three people that, like in the ear headsets. The last person like over the ear headsets. I suspect you can also look directly at the number of hours spent talking on the phone because over a week I talk on the phone a lot more than anyone else in the family. Based on that, I like over the ears and ANC microphone and headset. For me, I like ANC headsets that allow me to use them while I am outside walking (noise-canceling Microphone) on an airplane (Noise-canceling ear headsets) and rechargeable.
More earpiece and headset reviews to come! I wanted to share a picture of the market today, so people understand why and what a headset did for them.

I prefer a wired headset. I don’t know why. I don’t know whether it’s because I want to feel something.
over the ear or in the ear with the wire?
I personally don’t care wired or wireless as long as they are over the ear…
I don’t own a headset and don’t know a lot about them.
However, I have a question, since I don’t know a lot about technology.
I would like to know if listening to a cell phone or headset can cause illness. Some people say it causes cancer.
If there is no excessive use, I don’t see a problem.
The argument for cell phones and cancer has some merit.
1. A cellular phone is receiving a signal from beyond the phone. That field can if exposed extensively cause issues. But as you said it does require excessive use. Excessive use is something people are arguing. Right now it is around 6 hours a day of the phone pressed to your ear.
2. The use of headsets actually doesn’t have that issue. Well, it does, in the sense that it is creating a field near your ear but the amount of time you would have to wear the headset is well, more time than you could even wearing them 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

those are very nice – I like the over the ear headsets!
I have one to listen to something while I am at my PC. I use that to record as well
I have one for my phone, that also connects to my PC. I got one from work that is only for UC (voice over IP). headsets are interesting!
I don’t much care for headsets, but if I want to listen to music when I work at night…
Working late at night one would be best-using headsets! I used to wake my wife up years ago getting on the modem. I was moved to the basement and haven’t left!
to be fair, the old 14.4 handshake was pretty damn loud
It was, sadly i predate 14.4 my first modem was 300 baud.
as was mine! twice as fast as my buddy’s 150 baud…
mine was an acoustic coupler, so it really was slow. I also couldn’t keep my sister off the phone!
those were the coolest! even though they could still pick up sounds from the room and corrupt the signal, they just looked so damn cool
nobody can keep their sister off the phone
the sister thing ruined many an internet session.
Years ago I used to run forums on AOL and Compuserv. Plus I was a playmaker football addict!
if I tried to be on the modem before midnight, someone in my house would always wreck my connection in under a half hour
I used to run a BBS at night. I had to have two phone lines.
yeah, that’s the only way to do it
it was, sadly back in the days when phone lines cost more. I would add the second modem at midnight when I went to bed. I also remember the old Hayes commands to shut the noise off.
It was fun to run the BBS. But when it was time to stop, I didn’t miss it!
seem to recall having to type at&h&d or somesuch…
Gee, it looks like I am missing a lot in the trend.
yes it is a much changing experience now!
I have a headset that I received with my cell phone. I need to try them out, maybe I’ll like it
headsets are better now than when they first came out.
I have never used a headset on any phone … they are all originally packaged
🙂 that is what you need, I don’t have a problem with that! Do what works for you!
I really don’t need them … I don’t listen to the radio and I don’t make calls while driving … if they are used for anything else I don’t even know
I understand pal! The reality of anything is no what is possible, it is always what you need!
Never wear the headsets. Have a great day!
Thanks Carol! headsets are interesting, but clearly not to everyone!
I only have one headset; and that is for my computer.
i understand – thanks for comment Linda!!!
I enjoy wearing my headsets while at the gym to keep me in the beat lol. Your posts always draw attention in a good way.
I actually don’t listen to music when I work out. Maybe that is why I am always tired!
Listen to soft rock and you will stay awake, like Elvis Presley or Footloose lol.
a loose foot on the elliptical is dangerous 😉
We always want to hear what you have to say or ask – there is no limit!
Thank you, that really means a lot to me!
