Dude and the Bird ~ Saturday Critters

Now it is the Dude’s turn to be in the spotlight. He is inside the screen room.  He is standing on top of the mint container. See him over to the right? And he sees a baby robin that just fledged from the nest. The bird and the Dude had a stare down for about 30 minutes. The Dude has no front claws, so he cannot get to the bird.

This is as close as the Dude can get to a bird. He would look through the screen, and talk to the bird, getting his attention. But he couldn’t do anything but have a stare down. The robin is just out of the nest, with the Momma robin nearby on the deck, watching the show.

Amazing how tolerant the robins are of me and my camera. And now the Dude is passed out. That is hard work.

So cool to see this baby robin on my deck, right out of the nest. There is one more left to fledge.

    • They were serious. The baby bird had just flown out of the nest for the first time and sees my cat, who has never been this close to a bird!

  1. Haha … The dude is probably thinking, “if only the window is gone…”
and the baby robin, “too bad it isn’t…”

Btw, an interesting capture full of tension

    • And his little whiskers, every now and then you can see a white whisker. It was so fun to watch Kim. This little robin went form the nest to my deck and sat there for over an hour. The Dude could hear him but couldn’t see him until he stood up on the mint container. So funny. I stood at the patio door and saw the whole show.

He looked for the little bird this morning. 🙂

  2. The dude, being a movie character, is channeling his inner Mike Myers and is thinking “get in my belly.” (from the Austin Powers movie).

  3. Again a fantastic lucky picture shoot. Ah the Dude seems intrigued but also flabbergasted that he cannot catch this little robin. Unlike Runt, my indoor and outdoor cat, the Dude stays indoor. Good for him and BTW the Dude you should thank your mommy for keeping you indoors instead of looking so forlornly at this innocent birdie and wonder why can I not go out and play with this playmate….

    • I was in awe the entire time as I watched behind the camera lens. Should have done a video so you could hear him talking his little bird talk. He has no claws, so he has to be indoors. But as you see, he gets plenty of action. 🙂

    • Thanks, it was so cool to watch this happen. I don’t think he has ever been this close to one before. And the baby bird had no clue wha the Due even was!
