At the age of four, I was feeling a bit like a dog on a short lease. Living in an apartment there was not much space to really take some action. Whenever it was time to go to the park I made sure I had all the essentials with me like a ball for throwing and some toys for playing with where it didn’t matter how fast I ran.
One day my mom took me to visit some other children and they had a plastic horse that you rode attached to steel spirals so you could bounce real good. Anyway, I tried riding the horse and unfortunately bounced a bit too high and fell off. That was it I didn’t want such a horse. We went to visit another child who had a wooden rocking horse. Now that I liked but my mom said that the horse with the long rockers took up too much room and most likely I would wind up knocking something off of a shelf and breaking it.
Finally, we met up with the donkey you see in the picture. It wasn’t very big, it was on wheels and I thought just perfect. Unfortunately, as things turned out this donkey was imported from somewhere and much too expensive for my parents. It was back to my tea parties with my stuffed animals.

What a cute photo. I had a rocking horse and many stuffed animals. Loved my little wagon as well. I filled it with leaves.
I always wanted a little red wagon but of course, it would be a storage problem. In our apartment building, my parents were already storing my tricycle in their compartment.
such a beautiful story.
I remember parents saying we can’t do that it is too expensive.
As for my favorite toy, it was a stuffed dog named Manfred.
I just love that name for the dog For some strange reason as a teenager I got a red flannel shirt with of all things blue roses and I called it the same name in Latvia Manfreds go figure why
i think honestly it is just a cool name! I remember the days of flannel shirts. I wore them long after the craze was over!
my mother used to do my hair similarly, where she used to braid my hair in pigtails, and weave in the ribbon into my hair at the end before tying it at the end with a bow.
I wore braids or pigtails or other such hairstyles until I was in the 7th grade when my mom let me cut my hair short Fifi
me too. I got sick of my long, even though I wanted it long when i was a kid, and I finally decided i want to cut it in junior high. besides, everyone i know had cut their hair in 6th grade, but I wasnt ready
when i was 4, i had a big red wagon and a green car with pedals and wheels to drive. I was also on a real donkey when I was four. I like real donkeys. they are cute, similar to ponies.
You look the same, but you were blonde back then. When I saw this picture, I thought the face looked familiar. You didn’t change much, except age…
I think you would enjoy this blog about a donkey farm and donkeys. They have such nice photos.
